Who We Are

The Afenmai World Congress (AWC) is a unifying global organization representing the Afenmai people — a prominent ethnic group of Edo State, Nigeria. It is an inclusive body that brings together descendants, leaders, and professionals of Afenmai origin across the diaspora to promote cultural identity, education, youth empowerment, and collaborative development.

Our History

AWC was founded as a response to the urgent need for a cohesive voice among Afenmai people globally. Since its inception in the early 2000s, the organization has grown into a platform where dialogue, ideas, and developmental initiatives thrive. From early conventions to national conferences, the Congress continues to act as a bridge between Afenmai communities abroad and at home.

Mission

To unite all Afenmai people globally in order to promote cultural heritage, education, economic empowerment, and effective advocacy for the development of Edo North and the Afenmai identity.

A strong, unified Afenmai community empowered to drive sustainable development, preserve our heritage, and inspire future generations — both at home and in the diaspora.

Our Core Objectives

• Facilitate town hall development and local empowerment projects
• Strengthen partnerships between Afenmai communities worldwide

Our Structure

AWC is governed by an Executive Council and supported by regional and local chapters across the U.S., U.K., Nigeria, and beyond. It operates through committees focused on education, welfare, publicity, youth, and fundraising. The Congress is also advised by a Council of Elders made up of respected leaders from various regions.

Our Convention

The AWC holds a biennial National Convention where members gather to celebrate progress, address community issues, and brainstorm future initiatives. These events feature speeches, cultural presentations, fundraisers, and awards — serving as a source of unity, networking, and pride.
